Marjorie Taylor Greene in New Controversy After Comparing Pandemic Measures to Nazi Policies
Should the House censure Marjorie Taylor Greene for her comments?
What’s the story?
- Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is embroiled in a new controversy over comments likening measures enacted due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to actions taken by the Nazis.
- Greene’s latest controversial comments came in response to President Joe Biden saying the next phase of the vaccination rollout will involve government officials going “community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, and oftentimes, door to door ― literally knocking on doors” to get people vaccinated. Greene tweeted on Tuesday (emphasis original):
“Biden pushing a vaccine that is NOT FDA approved shows covid is a political tool used to control people. People have a choice, they don’t need your medical brown shirts showing up at their door ordering vaccinations. You can’t force people to be part of the human experiment.”
- “Brown shirts” is a term used to describe what was the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party, which assisted Adolf Hitler’s rise to power through intimidation and violence against political opponents and Jews.
- Greene’s six-month tenure in the House has been contentious to date. In February the House voted to remove Greene from her committee assignments over statements she made prior to her election that included calls for the execution of members of Congress, assertions that school shootings were staged, and expressions of support for a variety of conspiracy theories.
- Earlier this spring, Greene made a series of comments likening pandemic-related measures to “Nazi practices” and said the following in another tweet:
“Vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the Nazi’s forced Jewish people to wear a gold star. Vaccine passports & mask mandates create discrimination against unvaxxed people who trust their immune systems to a virus that is 99% survivable.”
- Following House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) decision to continue the House’s mask mandate in late May and her suggestion that unvaccinated lawmakers could be segregated in the House chamber, Greene said:
“You know, we can look back at a time in history when people were told to wear a gold star, and they were definitely treated like second-class citizens, so much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany, and this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about.”
- Greene was rebuked by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) who said, “Marjorie is wrong, and her intentional decision to compare the horrors of the Holocaust with wearing masks is appalling. The Holocaust is the greatest atrocity committed in history. The fact that this needs to be stated today is deeply troubling.”
- House Democrats had prepared a resolution to be considered on the House floor that would censure Greene for her comments, but withdrew it after she offered the following apology at a press conference following her visit to the National Holocaust Museum:
“The Holocaust is ― there’s nothing comparable to it. It’s ― it happened, and, you know, over six million Jewish people were murdered. More than that, there were not just Jewish people ― black people, Christians, all kinds of groups. Children. People that the Nazis didn’t believe were good enough or perfect enough… There is no comparison to the Holocaust, and there are words that I have said, remarks that I have made, that I know are offensive and for that I want to apologize.”
- Greene has not apologized for her most recent controversial comments as of the time of publication. She avoided Nazi comparisons in her most recent tweet criticizing the “vaccine police”.
- It’s unclear whether the House will renew the push to censure Greene, which would formally rebuke the first-term lawmaker and is the second-highest form of punishment the House can mete out short of expulsion.

Greene is one of the worst politicians in this country. She’s just another Trump puppet. If she thinks requiring people to wear masks is as bad as the holocaust, she’s an idiot!! Either that or she’s so pathetically weak that she’s the type of person that would call 911 if she gets a splinter in her finger! Should the House censure Marjorie Taylor Greene for her comments? She should be charged with sedition, convicted and sent to an island in a nice cool climate where she can ruminate for the rest of her miserable life on how precious and important and mistreated she is. Brainless twit!
Please work to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene and other seditionists from government office. They are not fulfilling their vow to uphold the constitution nor are they representing the interests of U.S. citizens.
