The Supreme Court's December session will be headlined by cases involving the Trump administrationās efforts to exclude unauthorized immigrants from the Census and a pair of cases related to immunities for foreign governments.
Here are some of the upcoming cases we're watching:
- Trump v. New YorkĀ concerns the Trump administrationās plan to exclude unauthorized immigrants from the state-by-state breakdown of apportionment data used to allocate seats in the House of Representatives.Ā
- Nestle USA, Inc. v. DoeĀ (consolidated withĀ Cargill, inc. v. Doe) deals with whether foreigners can sue U.S.-based corporations under the Alien Tort Statute alleging violations of international human rights laws.
- Facebook, Inc. v. DuguidĀ concerns the federal definition of an autodialer, and whether it covers devices which can store and automatically dial phone numbers without the use of a random number generator.

Bidenās Plan to Restrict āAssault Weaponsā
President-elect Joe Biden indicated his administration will pursue legislation to ban the production of āassault weaponsāĀ and will aim to give owners of such firearms the choice of selling it to the government through an optional buyback program, or registering it with the federal government.
Depending on how the above provisions are implemented, projections suggest the taxes couldĀ apply to 20 million AR- and AK-style rifles in addition to 150 million ammunition magazinesĀ according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and couldĀ cost up to $34 billionĀ based on a Washington Free Beacon analysis.

Former Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet YellenĀ has been chosen to lead the Biden administration's Dept. of the Treasury. Yellen was the first woman to chair the Federal Reserve, a role she served in from 2014 to 2018 after she spent four years as the vice-chair of the Fedās Board of Governors.Ā
