UPDATE - May 1, 2018: The Trump administration is delaying imposing steel and aluminum tariffs on the European Union, Canada, and Mexico for an additional 30 days.
The 25 percent tariffs on steel and 10 percent on aluminum were scheduled to take effect at 12:01 am Tuesday, but have been postponed until June 1.
The move comes amid concerns of retaliation against American products by European Union nations and China.
"You see what's happening with respect to trade and the United States," President Donald Trump said Monday. "We are being respected again."

Trump Grants Tariff Exemptions to Allies
What’s the story?
President Donald Trump has granted temporary exemptions on his steel and aluminum tariffs.
Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the European Union, Mexico, and South Korea will not be subject to the trade penalties.
Exemptions for Canada and Mexico were announced previously.
Trump said he would suspend tariffs until May 1, 2018:
"I have determined that the necessary and appropriate means to address the threat to the national security posed by imports from steel articles from these countries is to continue these discussions and to exempt steel articles imports from these countries from the tariff, at least at this time."
- Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen tweeted:
Only reasonable that EU seems to be omitted from tariffs based on national security grounds given that EU and US are close allies. Rather than threatening to raise tariffs against one another EU and US should work together to solve the real problem of overcapacity. #dkpol #EUCO
