House GOP Looks to Revive Obamacare Repeal

Members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus have announced plans to use a discharge petition to force a vote on a clean repeal of Obamacare similar to the "skinny repeal" proposal that failed in the Senate by a single vote.
House Republicans passed legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare in May on a closely contested 217-213 vote. In the House, discharge petitions allow lawmakers to force a vote on a bill that’s stuck in committee or that leadership isn’t bringing to the floor if they can collect the signatures of 218 members. Congress concludes its summer recess on September 5, which will give the House Freedom Caucus an opportunity to force a vote using their discharge petitions.
View From the Right
"Frankly, I would like to prove that the House can do what we said, because some senators are saying that “oh, well maybe the House can’t pass clean repeal that’s why they didn’t support it." I want to prove to them that we can so this is the way to do it.” — Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) on Fox News
View From the Left
"The news that Republicans in Congress will once again attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was first reported by Politico on Friday — the same day that a new poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation was released showing that most Americans are happy with the ACA. According to the poll, 52 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the ACA, while 39 percent have an unfavorable." — ThinkProgress
