What is H. Res. 407?
(Updated December 19, 2019)
This resolution would condemn the persecution of Christians and religious minorities around the world and call on discriminatory regimes to stop the oppression. It would also call on the president and the heads of the governments of all democratic nations to uphold the right to religious freedom and condemn.
As a simple resolution, this legislation wouldn’t be legally binding or advance beyond the House if passed.
Argument in favor
Christians in countries across the world are facing persecution, and the House should call on governments that oppress religious minorities to uphold religious freedom.
Argument opposed
While it’s good for the House to call for an end to the persecution of Christians and religious minorities around the world, this resolution is non-binding and won’t end it.
Impact
Christians and religious minorities who are being persecuted; heads of governments; and the House of Representatives.
Cost of H. Res. 407
