It’s difficult to stay up-to-date on what’s happening in this country and to break through the clutter, so we’re here to make it easier. Here’s what we at Countable are reading today:
1. "Sources: U.S. intel warning of possible al Qaeda attacks in U.S. Monday"
Anonymous sources told CBS News that al Qaeda may be planning an attack in the U.S. on Monday, the day before the election. "It is believed New York, Texas and Virginia are all possible targets, though no specific locations are mentioned. U.S. authorities are taking the threat seriously, though the sources stress the intelligence is still being assessed and its credibility hasn’t been confirmed."

2. "Guilty of all counts, 2 ex-Christie allies vow to appeal"
"Two former aides to [New Jersey] Gov. Chris Christie [R] were convicted Friday of creating an epic traffic jam at the George Washington Bridge for what prosecutors say was political revenge, capping a trial that cast doubt on Christie's claims he knew nothing about the scheme." Christie’s former deputy chief of staff Bridget Kelly and his appointee to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Bill Baroni, were convicted of all counts in the “Bridgegate” trial. Both plan to appeal.
"Christie said Friday that the verdict affirmed his decision to terminate Baroni and Kelly and that the jury held them responsible ‘for their own conduct.’ He repeated his assertions that he had no knowledge of the plot and said he would ‘set the record straight’ soon about "the lies told by the media and in the courtroom.’"

3. "Rudy Giuliani Confirms FBI Insiders Leaked Information To The Trump Campaign"
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Friday that the he and the Donald Trump campaign were given advanced notice that the FBI would announce that it is examining additional Hillary Clinton emails. Giuliani went on to brag about his ties to current and former FBI agents, saying that they have described tensions at the bureau that are reaching a "boiling point."

4. "Jury finds reporter, Rolling Stone responsible for defaming U-Va. dean with gang rape story"
A federal jury found Rolling Stone, its publisher and reporter Sabrina Rubin Erdely guilty of defaming University of Virginia Associate Dean Nicole Eramo "with actual malice" on Friday, over “a 2014 magazine article about sexual assault on campus that included a debunked account of a fraternity gang rape.” Eramo originally sued for $7.5 million, “but can ask for a different sum after the verdict.”

5. "If the polls are any indication, these key governor's races will be very close on Tuesday"
There are 12 governorships up for grabs on Tuesday, including in North Carolina where GOP Gov. Pat McCrory, whose decision to sign transgender bathroom legislation sparked debate across the country, is "in a fight for his political life. … If Republicans win in toss-up races, they would tie their own record for the most postwar governorships held by one party. They currently hold 31 governorships across the country; Democrats hold 18, and Alaska’s Bill Walker is an independent."
