Senate Debates Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill as House Begins Recess
How do you feel about this week’s congressional schedule?
What’s happening in Congress?
- The Senate is set to continue debate over a bipartisan infrastructure package this week and will potentially consider a budget resolution that would pave the way for Democrats’ partisan infrastructure bill to move through reconciliation. Meanwhile, the House’s summer recess will begin in earnest.
SENATE SCHEDULE
- The Senate meets Monday after remaining in session through the weekend and will continue to consider the bipartisan infrastructure package. Senators and legislative staff continued to draft the text of the bill over the weekend, which is expected to be formally introduced Sunday.
- Finalized legislative text will allow the Senate to begin debating amendments to the underlying bipartisan bill, a process that is expected to play out over several days before a vote on the final passage of the package.
- Once the Senate completes consideration of the bipartisan infrastructure bill, it will move to consider Democrats’ budget resolution with reconciliation instructions, which will allow them to advance their $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill along party-lines through the reconciliation process. Consideration of the budget resolution may begin before the end of the week and will include a “vote-a-rama” in which senators vote on any amendment offered to the resolution.
- It’s possible that the Senate will consider nominations and other legislative items over the course of the week.
- Committees will hold hearings on student loan bankruptcy reform; authorizations for use of military force; domestic terrorism and violent extremism; and threats to national security posed by the People’s Republic of China.
HOUSE SCHEDULE
- The House began its recess on Friday, July 30th, and is currently not scheduled to return for floor votes until Monday, September 20th. Committees will hold remote hearings during four of the next eight weeks.
- Democratic leadership has indicated that lawmakers may be recalled for floor votes sooner than September 20th depending on when the Senate completes its consideration of the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the Democratic budget resolution with reconciliation instructions for the partisan infrastructure bill.

Our elected officials need to go to work. They take more recesses , brakes and vacations than I have taken in a lifetime.
Taking a vacation at this time just shows how little they care about what they are or are not doing for the families and working poor in America.
Stop negotiating with terrorists. Do what we elected to to do. Stop bending over backwards to be played by republicans. They don’t care about anything but power. Just do the job and stop being considerate of the insurrectionists that are trying to squash the rest of us like bugs. We are cockroaches to them. Do the right thing! Stop bending over to accommodate those who just want us dead. They prove it every day.
Can we please stop trying to appease the republic party and GET THINGS DONE? They don't care about us, only money and power. You were hired to do a job for us. Do it.
The news reports that the X-president is opposed to the infrastructure bill and how Republicans and Democrats are working together on it. Good job Congress for standing up to someone who wants to divide and destroy our country. Keep up the good work!
As an individual who has been investing in Cryptocurrencies, and is also a small business owner of a software company, I am VERY concerned about the proposed tax implications that will greatly impact the crypto market that are in the infrastructure package. I support so much about what the Dems are putting forth on so many fronts, but it’s important that this not get screwed up in this bill. What is in the Portman-Warner bill is pretty much impossible for those not excluded to comply with. That means you’ll prohibit innovation on our soil. These are damaging on a number of fronts - including innovation, and the Wyden, Lummis, Toomey amendment is far more balanced than the Portman-Warner amendment that unfortunately is what Biden is supporting. Please do not hog tie the burgeoning Crypto environment and innovation possible in the US by messing this up in this bill!! It is too important for that.
Daniel Hale is a intelligence analyst who felt the public should know that the drone strikes by America were killing over 90% INNOCENT PEOPLE. He should not be jailed for that. The pentagon is a jungle that had closed its complaint offices. You want to keep secrets. The other person I'm deeply concerned for is Atty Don Donziger who been under house arrest for 2 years with the company he won a settlement over 9.5 billion dollars is the prosecutor in his case which is stupid. The reason it's a case at all is the radical federal judges presiding in his case. Chevron lost against him and the poor people who suffered greatly because chevron dumped oil into water systems and hasn't paid any compensation. Now Don Donziger has been fighting for the people hurt in Ecuador for 15 years. He fought for them and the rigged court owned by chevron and the rest of the corporates making America a corporate state or oligarchy. The rich gotta be taxed heavily! They own the supreme court and entire Republican party; not to mention 75% of politicians nationwide and their mission is to destroy earth and move to Mars and so on. They care nothing for us. They own the media and besides constant lies is the burying of the news about all the corruption by our courts, politicians and so on. Your consenting to the schemes of the devil and I warn you severely that Jesus and the Holy Spirit pray for you but if God's got his back to you when Jesus arrives you will be quickly forgotten, gone forever bye bye. You have no fear of God of you serve the rich. Otherwise you are bold and courageous; get to the war by the rich on us who've been at it for so long that we are left with one alternative to oust the government. Even historically we can say we ain't paying what we owe because you made your deal with corruption so they may get deservingly what is fair of we can even at it. We're in large variety of crisis's and we the people should rewrite the laws and so on. We rebuild on knowledge both historical and only for the people's benefit. You got more money and gan you can ever spend so we're not allowing that. The government gets to organize our future. We need to really get at the war with global warming. The Republicans are so owned by the rich that they say global warming ain't real. Psychos bent on destroying earth and somehow we are gaining them nothing but consent Where are the cops. What happened to protect and serve?!? All cops are to be put under the lie detector. No racist or liars for cops. End the gang and that includes the FBI, CIA and NSA, Congress, the Senate, the presidency, the Supreme Court. About the supreme court of which 6 of 9 are radical Republicans, yeah we shut that down along with the electorates. We take the GOP and all them weirdos that say former president Trump won and backed the american terrorists who attempted an insurrection (coup) and put them in jail for as traitors to the constitution!!! #oustoligarchy # WethePeopleEqualinPowertotheGovernment
If what is being stated about this Infrastructure B. S. The Dems Are pushing in A lot. I’m not a Rep/Dem or Liberal. I Research and decided for myself. I’m Totally Against it. Wondering 💥🤔💥 How many persons have actually digested what it contains. 🤷🏻♀️ I Do Not want someone telling Me when I can go somewhere or do something ( visit family/friends/ My Dr 🙄) Please. Don’t let this Pass. My Senator Todd Young Hopefully Will NOT vote Yea on this. Elections Will Be Coming Soon. ✨🇺🇸✨⚖️✨ Thx U. (my opinion only)
Why is DeJoy still in office? He has very nearly destroyed the Post Office.
Now you want to track us to potentially tax our use of roads that we already pay for from our Fed & State income taxes? You/we need more time to see what else is in this bill. We also have the CBO saying this is no way going to pay for this. There are some good things but you need to weed out the overreach like asking government to PAY auto companies to go green(buy cars, trucks). Just like the solar panels, batteries, charging stations, we have no way to make in US till we develop sources of the rare earth minerals from our own mines or new technology. No Chinas slave labor!
THESE MORON POLITICIANS ARE PUSHING MORE DEBT BIG BROTHER OVER SITE IN EVERY ASPECT OF OUR LIVES AND LETTING ILLEGALS FREE ENTRY INTO OUR COUNTRY DURING A PANDEMIC. THEY ARE THE ONES BRINGING OT INTO OUR COUNTRY AND OUR POLITICIANS ARE GUILTY OF FAILING TO ACT IN ORDR TO PROTECT OUR CITIZENS. LACK OF OMISSION. REPUBLICANS MUST STAND UP AND REFUSE ANY BILL PUT FORWARD BY THE DEMOCRATS. JUST LIKE THEY DID UNDER PRESIDENT TRUMP. RESIST THE DEMS!!!!!!
Glad to see the infrastructure bill is moving forward. I am suspicious about Republican dirty tricks to slow it down. Hopefully Democrats won’t get caught up in the usual stalling tactics so we can move forward with decades overdue investment infrastructure and creation of new decent paying jobs.
Check page 508 of the infrastructure bill! It calls for a per mile tax on all vehicles and would as they tried in California make it harder to drive your car. This is your Democratic’s turning this Country into trash and filling their pockets as they empty ours.
I will not support anyone to votes for this stupid bill
Debating Amendments to Infrastructure must be curtailed when Republicans only use this to delay the inevitable outcome.
Now it sounds like the GOP wants to add money for defense infrastructure to the bill. I would be ok with that as long as there are requirements for accountability, transparency, and auditing for every one of those dollars. No more blank checks for the Defense Department, who still has never been audited.
We will see
There is lots of work to do.
The Senate should get their work done before they go away for summer recess.
Jeez, can you guys come to an agreement already?
