Primary Election: June 4, 2024

Voter Registration Deadline

• May 20, 2024 - Final day to hand-deliver or mail-in voter registration forms. 

Absentee Ballot Deadlines

Request an absentee ballot here.

Ballot Request Deadlines

• June 3, 2024 - Final day to apply for mail-in absentee ballot.

Ballot Return Deadlines

• June 4, 2024 - Absentee ballots returned by mail or in person must be received by 7 p.m.

General Election: November 5, 2024

Voter Registration Deadline

• October 21, 2024 - Final day to hand-deliver or mail-in voter registration forms. 
• South Dakota law does not allow voter registration via fax or email.

• November 4, 2024 - Final day to apply for mail-in absentee ballot.
• Only military members and overseas citizens can submit their applications via fax or email.

Polling Location

• Use the South Dakota Secretary of State Voter Information Portal to find where to cast your ballot.

V. WHAT TO TAKE TO THE POLLS

Voter ID Laws

• South Dakota requires a valid picture ID to vote, though they make some exceptions. 

Accepted Credentials

Don't have a valid ID?

• You can sign a personal identification affidavit, and will still be allowed to vote a regular ballot. Call (605) 773-3537 for more information.
