Presidential Preference Primary - March 5, 2024
Voter Registration Deadline
- February 5, 2024 - Final day to register to vote online, in person, and by mail.
Absentee Ballot Deadlines

Ballot Request Deadline
- February 27, 2024 - Final day to apply for mail-in absentee ballot.
Ballot Return Deadline
- March 5, 2024 - Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by Election Day.
Nonpresidential Primary Election - August 1, 2024

- July 2, 2024 - Final day to register to vote online, in person, and by mail.

- August 1, 2024 - Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by Election Day.
General Election - November 5, 2024
Voter Registration Deadline
- October 7, 2024 - Final day to register to vote for the general election.
Absentee Ballot Deadlines
Absentee ballots are only available to certain residents - see if you match the criteria outlined here. Tennessee voters who want to vote by absentee ballot this fall should submit an absentee ballot application to their local county election commission office as early as possible.
Ballot Request Deadline
- October 29, 2024 - Final day to apply for mail-in absentee ballot.
Ballot Return Deadline
- November 5, 2024 - Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by Election Day. You may not hand deliver your ballot during early voting or on Election Day.
Military and overseas citizens can vote by mail using the standard procedure. Ensure your ballot is received by election officials by 8 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. CT on Election Day.

V. WHAT TO TAKE TO THE POLLS
Voter ID Laws
- All voters must present a federal or Tennessee state ID containing the voter’s name and photograph when voting.
Accepted Credentials
- Here is the list of accepted credentials.
Don't have a valid ID?
- If you don’t bring a photo ID, you will vote with a provisional ballot. You will then have two business days after Election Day to return to the election commission office to show a valid photo ID.
- You may also obtain a free photo ID to vote from the Department of Safety and Homeland Security at any participating driver service center nationwide.
