Primary Election - June 11, 2024
- Democratic Presidential Primary: February 3, 2024
- Republican Presidential Primary: February 3, 2024
Voter Registration Deadline
- May 12, 2024 - Last day to register to vote online or to postmark voter registration forms for the Primary Election.
Absentee Ballot Deadlines

Ballot Request Deadline
- May 31, 2024 - Final day to apply for mail-in absentee ballot.
Ballot Return Deadlines
- June 11, 2024 - Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by 5 p.m.
- Military and overseas voters’ ballots are accepted until June 12, 5 p.m.
General Election - November 4, 2024
Voter Registration Deadlines
- October 4, 2024 - Final day for in-person voter registration (unless the county board holds weekend hours).
- October 6, 2024 - Final day for online voter registration. Final day to postmark voter registration forms.
Absentee Ballot Deadlines
Absentee ballots are only available to certain residents - see if you match the criteria outlined here. South Carolina voters who want to vote by absentee ballot this fall should submit a request for an absentee ballot application to their local county voter registration office as early as possible.
Ballot Request Deadline
- October 25, 2024 - Final day to apply for mail-in absentee ballot.
Ballot Return Deadlines
- November 5, 2024 - Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by 5 p.m.
- Military and overseas voters’ ballots are accepted until November 7, 5 p.m.
- South Carolina law does not allow in-person absentee voting.

- Use the South Carolina Election Commission’s Voter Information form to find where to cast your ballot.
V. WHAT TO TAKE TO THE POLLS
Voter ID Laws
- South Carolina requires a valid picture ID to vote, though they make some exceptions.
Don't have a valid ID?
- You can obtain a free South Carolina Identification Card from your local DMV office.
- If you cannot obtain a valid ID because of a reasonable impediment, you can list such impediment and sign an affidavit so your provisional ballot will count.
