II. KNOW THE DATES
Primary Election - June 11, 2024
- Democratic Presidential Preference Primary: April 6, 2024.
- Republican Presidential Preference Primary: March 4, 2024.
Voter Registration Deadline
- North Dakota is the only state that does not require voter registration. Any eligible voter may vote if they provide acceptable identification.
Absentee Ballot Deadline
Registered voters in North Dakota who want to vote by absentee ballot this fall should submit an absentee ballot application via mail or online to their local county auditor’s office as early as possible.
Ballot Request & Return Deadlines
- June 10, 2024 - Final day to submit your absentee ballot application and return a completed ballot application for the Primary Election.
General Election - November 5, 2024

Don't have a valid ID?
- You can obtain a free DOT Nondriver ID here.
- If a voter does not have a form of identification that includes his or her current North Dakota residential address or date of birth, they can present a supplemental document.
