Bipartisan Bill Seeking McCabe’s FBI Records Related to Investigating Trump for Obstruction & Invoking the 25th Amendment Advances
Do you want the DOJ to give Congress McCabe's records?
The House Judiciary Committee cast a unanimous 22-0 vote on Tuesday to advance a resolution calling for the Dept. of Justice (DOJ) to turn over records related to fired Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe’s move to open an obstruction of justice probe into President Donald Trump.
The request also applies to records related to discussion by McCabe and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein about using the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office, which Rosenstein insists was a joke that was taken out of context by McCabe.
During his time as acting director McCabe opened an investigation into possible obstruction of justice by President Trump, a role he assumed after James Comey’s firing. He was later replaced as the head of the FBI when Director Christopher Wray was confirmed to the role.
Shortly thereafter McCabe was fired on the recommendation of the DOJ’s Office of Professional Responsibility, while the agency’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, filed a criminal referral suggesting that McCabe should be prosecuted for lying to federal investigators.
The resolution of inquiry requesting these records now heads to the House floor, and its passage there would formally request that the DOJ provide those records within 14 days.
