Trump Admin. to Let States Impose Medicaid Work Requirements

What’s the story?
The Trump administration is encouraging states to impose work or job-training requirements on Medicaid recipients as a condition for obtaining health insurance.
Today @CMSGov is releasing guidance to support state efforts to improve #Medicaid enrollee #health outcomes by incentivizing community engagement among able-bodied beneficiaries.

Why does it matter?
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued guidelines for states that want certain "able-bodied" adults to work in exchange for health insurance coverage. It would be the first time in the half-century history of the program where such a requirement would be imposed.
CMS Administrator Seema Verma tweeted, "We need to support states and give them more freedom to design innovative programs that get positive results for #Medicaid beneficiaries."
In a follow up tweet, Verma added:
We owe beneficiaries more than a #Medicaid card; we owe them the opportunity and resources to connect with job skills, training and employment so they can rise out of poverty.

But Suzanne Wikle of the Center for Law and Social Policy told NPR that "access to Medicaid makes it easier for people to look for work and obtain employment." She continued,
"A so-called work requirement does not support work but instead puts a critical support for work at risk."
What do you think?
Will imposing job requirements on Medicaid recipients put "a critical support for work at risk"? Or do we owe them “the opportunity and resources to connect with job skills”? Do you want your state to adopt the work requirement? Hit Take Action and tell your reps, then share your thoughts below.
