UPDATE - October 30, 2018:
- Kanye West is denying any involvement in designing "Blexit" apparel, which encourages African-American voters to leave the Democratic party.
- Candace Owens, a conservative activist and founder of the Blexit movement, had shared images of the shirts and touted West's involvement during Turning Point USA’s Young Black Leadership Summit on Saturday.
"Blexit is a renaissance and I am blessed to say that this logo, these colors, were created by my dear friend and fellow superhero Kanye West," Owens said.
- But in a pair of tweets on Tuesday, the rapper claimed he introduced Owens to the designer, but had no further involvement.
Countable's original story appears below.
What’s the story?
- Kanye West has designed a line of shirts and hats for “Blexit,” a campaign encouraging black Americans to exit the Democratic party.
- Playing off “Brexit” – the slogan for Britain’s withdrawal from the EU – “Blexit” is a portmanteau for “Black exit.”
"Blexit is a renaissance and I am blessed to say that this logo, these colors, were created by my dear friend and fellow superhero Kanye West," the group's communication director, Candace Owens, said during the merchandise’s release.
- Earlier this month, West, a noted supporter of Trump, visited the White House to discuss prison reform and gang violence with the president.
- Blexit is "for those who have taken an objective look at our decades-long allegiance to the left and asked ourselves, 'what do we have to show for it?’” Owens said.
