The Daily Countable: Take Action Today!
WEDNESDAY, MAY 24
Good morning, CountaCitizens!
Due to differences in time zones, the day’s excitement for President Trump is already nearly over, but never fear. Congress should keep us all busy today. The Congressional Budget Office is scheduled to release their score of the House GOP health care bill today and debate is still raging about the President’s 2018 budget.
There’s never a dull moment in Washington. Repetitive, maddening, comical and tragic, perhaps, but never, ever dull. Let’s get to it!
The President: Italy and Belgium
The President and First Lady began the day in Rome, touring the Vatican and enjoying a personal audience with the Pope. See short footage of the public portion of their meeting here.
President Trump then met with President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni of Italy.
The President and First Lady will arrive in Brussels, Belgium around 10 AM EDT for Trump’s bi-lateral talks with Prime Minister Charles Michel of Belgium.
The House of Representatives: IN SESSION
Voting on a bill to force federal agencies to reduce the use of full Social Security numbers on mailed documents to reduce identity theft.
Voting on a bill related to remove the need for a permit to discharge pesticides into waterways.as long as the pesticide is used in accordance with federal regulations.
Voting on three other suspension bills.
The Senate: IN SESSION
- Voting on the nomination of John Sullivan to be Deputy Secretary of State.
What to Watch
- The Senate Intelligence Committee sent former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn two new subpoenas yesterday after Flynn declined to honor their first one. Watch for more drama as media speculate whether Flynn will try to avoid the Committee any longer, or if the Committee gives in and grants him immunity to compel his testimony and document submissions.
Be strong, CountaFam! We’re all counting on you.
