Committee Watch: Social Media Filtering, Russia’s Occupation of Georgia, and SHARKS!

Before bills and nominations are brought up for a passage vote in Congress, they typically have to be considered and approved by relevant committees. Here’s a look at what Congressional committees will be holding hearings on this week.

Tuesday
- The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “Facebook, Google and Twitter: Examining the Content Filtering Practices of Social Media Giants” featuring testimony from representatives of those companies. 10am
- The House Oversight Subcommittee on National Security will hold a hearing titled “A New Horizon in U.S.-Israel Relations: From an American Embassy in Jerusalem to Potential Recognition of Israeli Sovereignty Over the Golan Heights”. 10am
- The House Veterans Affairs Committee will hold a hearing titled “The VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act: One Year Later”. 10:30am
- The Helsinki Commission will hold a hearing to examine “Russia’s Occupation of Georgia and the Erosion of the International Order”. 11am
- The House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade will hold a hearing titled “The Effects of Tariffs on U.S. Agriculture and Rural Communities”. 2pm
Wednesday
- The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will hold a hearing titled “SHARKS!” to examine innovations in shark research techniques and technology. 10am
- The House Agriculture Committee will hold a hearing titled “Cryptocurrencies: Oversight of New Assets in the Digital Age”. 10am
- The House Transportation & Infrastructure Subcommittee on Emergency Management will hold a hearing titled “Are We Ready? Recovering from 2017 Disasters and Preparing for the 2018 Hurricane Season”. 10am
Thursday
- The House Intelligence Committee will hold a hearing titled “China’s Threat to American Government and Private Sector Research and Innovation Leadership”. 9am
- The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on the administration’s reorganization and modernization proposals for the Depts. of Energy and Interior. 10am
