Sex Trafficking: Increasing Protections for Minors, Options for Adults, and Monitoring of Traffickers (S. 1733)

What is S. 1733?
(Updated October 12, 2016)
Sometimes, the House and Senate consider identical legislation. This is one of those cases. This is the Senate version of the matching House bill. For more on the bill, please go here.
Argument in favor
Bipartisan support in both House and Senate. Greater protections for all victims of trafficking, especially minors. Tracks traffickers more closely. Does not increase federal spending. Treats children who are trafficked for sex as what they are--victims.
Argument opposed
A likelihood of increasing lifelong criminals, as an 18-year old involved in the trafficking of another adult would be put on the National Sex Offender Registry for life, thereby severely limiting that person's opportunities.
Impact
Cost of S. 1733
