Do You Want Your Reps Confirming Trump’s VA Secretary Pick Robert Wilkie?
Join us and tell your reps how you feel!
What’s the story?
- President Donald Trump’s pick to be the next secretary of Veterans Affairs, Robert Wilkie, attended his confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs on Wednesday.
- Wilkie said he believes the most significant challenges facing the VA are "administrative and bureaucratic."
"For the VA to thrive as an integrated health care network, it must be agile and adaptive," Wilkie opened his hearing.
Why does it matter?
- If Wilkie is confirmed, he’ll be responsible for implementing a law Trump signed earlier this month: the VA MISSION Act, which is meant to overhaul the agency, including expanding veterans’ access to private health care when their needs aren’t being met by federal VA programs.
- Trump’s former pick to lead the VA, Dr. Ronny Jackson, withdrew his nomination among a flurry of misconduct allegations, including drinking on the job and improperly dispensing sleeping medication.
