Committee Watch: Confronting Iran, Puerto Rico’s Electric Grid & Ideas for the FY19 Budget

Before bills and nominations are brought up for a passage vote in Congress, they typically have to be considered and approved by relevant committees. Here’s a look at some of this week’s high profile committee hearings.
Tuesday
- The House Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a hearing titled “Confronting the Iranian Challenge” featuring testimony from several experts in international affairs. 10am ET
- The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold an oversight hearing examining the current status of Puerto Rico’s electric grid and proposals for the future operation of the grid. 10am ET
- The House Oversight Committee will hold a hearing to receive a progress report on the 2020 Census. 1pm ET
Wednesday
- The House Armed Services Committee will hold a hearing to begin its markup of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019. 10am ET
- Two subcommittees of the House Oversight Committee will hold a joint hearing titled “Program Integrity for the Supplemental Assistance Program”. 10am ET
- The House Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a hearing to markup bills related to international security assistance and global engagement. 10am ET
- The House Small Business Committee will hold a hearing titled “Ready, Willing, and Able to Work: How Small Businesses Empower People with Developmental Disabilities”. 11am ET
Thursday
- The House Budget Committee will hold a “Members’ Day” hearing in which committee members will share their ideas for the fiscal year 2019 budget resolution. 9am ET
