UPDATE - 10/11/19: The non-partisan Commission on Presidential Debates announced the sites and dates of the presidential & vice presidential debates during the 2020 general election, which can be found below.
The 2020 election is approaching fast, and there are a lot of key dates to keep track of before Election Day dawns on November 3, 2020. Here’s a list of the upcoming debates, primaries, caucuses, and conventions that are on the schedule. We’ll keep this post updated as the calendar evolves.
OCTOBER 2019
- October 15: Democratic primary debate at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.
NOVEMBER 2019
- November 20: Democratic primary debate in Georgia (specific location TBA).
DECEMBER 2019

JANUARY 2020

FEBRUARY 2020
- February 3: Iowa Caucuses (Democratic & Republican)
- February 11: New Hampshire Primaries (Democratic & Republican)

MARCH 2020
- March 3: “Super Tuesday” ― Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Vermont Primaries (Democratic & Republican); Virginia and Democrats Abroad Democratic Primaries; American Samoa Democratic Caucus.
- March 8: Puerto Rico Republican Primary
- March 10: Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, and Washington Primaries (Democratic & Republican); Hawaii Republican Caucus; and North Dakota Democratic Primary

- August 24-27: Republican National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.
SEPTEMBER 2020
- September 29: First presidential debate at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana.
OCTOBER 2020
- October 7: Vice presidential debate at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- October 15: Second presidential debate at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
- October 22: Third presidential debate at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.
NOVEMBER 2020
- November 3: Election Day
(Note: Alaska, Arizona, Kansas, Nevada, South Carolina, and Virginia canceled their Republican primaries or caucuses and all delegates from those states are expected to go to President Donald Trump barring a reversal of their decisions.)
