McConnell: ‘Case Closed’ on Mueller Report - Do You Agree?
Should Congress say "case closed" on the Mueller report?
What’s the story?
- Senate Majority Mitch McConnell (R-KY) declared Tuesday that it’s time for Congressional Democrats and America to move on from the Mueller investigation and “fanciful conspiracy theories” involving Russia and the Trump Campaign.
“Case closed,” McConnell said in remarks on the Senate floor.
- McConnell’s remarks come while the House Judiciary Committee is considering holding Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress and the White House is instructing former White House counsel Donald McGahn not to comply with a congressional subpoena.
What did McConnell say?
- "With an exhaustive investigation complete, would the country finally unify to confront the real challenges before us?" McConnell asked.
"Would we finally be able to move on from partisan paralysis and breathless conspiracy theorizing? Or would we remain consumed by unhinged partisanship, and keep dividing ourselves to the point that [Russian president Vladimir] Putin and his agents need only stand on the sidelines and watch as their job is done for them?"
What’s the Democratic response?
- "Of course he wants to move on," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said of McConnell. "He wants to cover up."
Schumer added: "It's sort of like Richard Nixon saying 'let's move on' at the height of the investigation of his wrongdoing.”
What do you think?
Is it “case closed” on the Mueller report? Or should Democrats work to keep it open? Take action and tell your reps, then share your thoughts below.
