Whatās the story?
Montana Governor Steve Bullock (D) signed an executive order that prevents ISPS with state contracts from blocking content or charging more for faster delivery of websites.
Why does it matter?
In December, the Federal Communications Commission voted to dismantle net neutrality regulations, allowing internet providers to speed up ā or slow down ā access to apps and websites.
Gov. Bullockās executive order makes Montana the first state to reverse the FCC decision.
In a statement, the governor said:
āWhen the FCC repealed its net neutrality rules, it said consumers should choose. The State of Montana is one of the biggest consumers of internet services in our state. Today weāre making our choice clear: we want net neutrality.ā
Any city or state can do this. We made you a template: https://t.co/yYgQTWdat1 #NetNeutrality https://t.co/dz3BFiN0uN
