This Week in Congress: Ending Trump’s Border Emergency & Calling for the Mueller Report to Be Public
How do you feel about this week's congressional agenda?
The White House will be the focus of this week’s agenda in both chambers of Congress, with the Senate taking up a bill to terminate President Donald Trump’s border emergency declaration and the House voting on a resolution calling for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report to to be made public to the greatest extent possible.
The House kicks off its week by considering a dozen bills under the fast-track “suspension of the rules” process that requires a two-thirds majority for passage on Monday and Tuesday. Monday’s slate includes a bill to give banks a legal safe harbor when law enforcement asks them to keep a criminal suspect’s account open. Tuesday’s docket features bills aimed at exposing the corruption of Russian leader Vladimir Putin and assessing his government’s intentions, along with several bills aimed at improving federal recordkeeping. The House will conclude its week by considering a resolution calling for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report to made public to the greatest extent legally possible.
The Senate starts its week Monday with a procedural vote on the nomination of Paul Matey to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals ahead of a likely confirmation vote Tuesday. While the schedule for the rest of the week is yet to be announced, it’s expected to include votes on the confirmation of Judge Neomi Rao to the D.C. Circuit and William Beach as the commissioner of labor statistics. On Thursday, the Senate is expected to vote on a bill terminating Trump’s border security emergency declaration
