House Starts 2018 With Surveillance Debate - This Week in Congress

Both chambers of Congress will be in session this week as the House will gavel in Monday for the first time in 2018.
On Monday the House will hold a vote to establish a quorum for the second session of the 115th Congress. Tuesday will feature votes on bills to track the movements of terrorist fighters, expand the capacity of explosives detection dogs, and a resolution supporting the Iranian people’s right to free expression which condemns the regimes crackdown on protests. Wednesday will feature a bill that implements the White Mountain Apache Tribe Water Settlement to improve the tribe’s water infrastructure. Finally, the House is set to conclude its week on Thursday when it votes on a bill to reauthorize the federal government’s surveillance activities under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
The Senate will vote Monday on the confirmation of William Campbell, Jr. to be U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Tennessee. Its schedule for the remainder of the week is yet to be announced.
