Committee Watch: China’s Espionage, Google’s Data Collection, and the Impact of Mandating a $15 Minimum Wage
What do you think of this week's committee schedule?
Before bills and nominations are brought up for a passage vote in Congress, they typically have to be considered and approved by relevant committees ― which also conduct oversight of federal agencies. Here’s a look at what Congressional committees will be holding hearings on this week.

Tuesday
- The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “Transparency & Accountability: Examining Google and its Data Collection, Use and Filtering Practices” featuring testimony from Google CEO Sundar Pichai. 10am
- The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing to conduct oversight of Customs and Border Protection (CBP). 10am
- The Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing to conduct oversight of the Securities and Exchange Commission. 10am
Wednesday
- The Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness will hold a hearing on U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Readiness with testimony from Navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer and Marine Corps Commandant Richard B. Neller, among others. 9:30am
- The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “China’s Non-Traditional Espionage Against the United States: The Threat and Potential Policy Responses”. 10am
- The House Subcommittee on Workforce Protections will hold a hearing titled “Mandating a $15 Minimum Wage: Consequences for Workers and Small Businesses”. 10am
- The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust Law will hold an oversight hearing for the antitrust enforcement agencies (FTC’s Bureau of Competition & the DOJ’s Antitrust Division). 2pm
- The Senate Intelligence Committee will receive a closed intelligence briefing. 2:30pm
- The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold an oversight hearing titled “Missing and Murdered: Confronting the Silent Crisis in Indian Country”. 2:30pm
Thursday
- The House Intelligence Committee will hold a hearing to adopt several classified and unclassified committee reports. 9am
