Here’s a look at five proposed constitutional amendments in Congress now that’d change U.S. elections.
Rep. Mark Pocan’s (D-WI) H.J.Res. 74 would amend the Constitution to explicitly guarantee the right to vote for every U.S. citizen of legal voting age.
Rep. Madeleine Bordallo’s (D-Guam) H.J.Res. 137 would amend the Constitution to give American citizens living in U.S. territories representation in the Electoral College, thus allowing them to vote in presidential elections.
Rep. John Yarmuth’s (D-KY) H.J.Res. 126 would amend the Constitution to establish that political contributions aren’t protected speech and task Congress with developing a mandatory public campaign finance system.
Rep. Rick Nolan’s (D-MN) H.J.Res. 48 would amend the Constitution to establish that political contributions aren’t protected speech and to require all levels of government to regulate, limit, or prohibit contributions to ensure no person gains substantially more influence over an electoral race.
Rep. Steve Cohen’s (D-TN) H.J.Res. 19 would amend the Constitution to abolish the Electoral College and require the president and vice president to be elected by popular vote.
Tell your reps if you think they should consider taking up these amendments and share your thoughts below!
