We raise funds, mobilize volunteers, help to strengthen agencies, identify critical and unmet needs in the community, and help to build collaborations with the public and private sector to meet those needs. Through our annual campaign we raise funds to support a network of nearly 200 local health and human service organizations in our 16-county Missouri and Illinois region. More than 90 cents of every dollar your United Way receives helps people in our community. Rigorous examination of member agencies – from program results to governance to overall quality – not only helps determine funding, it also ensures that agencies are meeting the needs of your friends, neighbors, co-workers – perhaps even your family. |

On May 22, about 60 Employee Campaign Coordinators* visited four United Way funded agencies. Here's some photos from one of the group tours. Terri, from Smurifit-Stone shared that is was a great way to see how things are done - things that she didn't know existed. Linda, from Standing Partnership, said her aunt lived at Emmaus Homes and they used to go there all the time to visit when she was young - it took her back to some good memories. *Employee campaign coordinators are the wonderful people who work at the companies that run United Way campaigns who take care of the campaign.

Debbie from United Way called me this afternoon, not only to apologize for the way i was treated when i was in search of help, but also to go above and beyond in finding help for me.
Thank you so much Debbie! For your compassion, for your kindness and for your love! I will not take down my earlier post but i will say that my opinion has greatly changed. I am thankful to Debbie and the United Way for the help they are finding for me and putting me in the right direction to seek and find more.
We ALL need to remember to treat each and everyone we talk to and meet, however brief, however small, with love and respect. We all want the same things out of life. We all want to be happy.. we all want to not suffer. Too many times we forget that a kind tone, a thoughtful word and a smile can not only go a long way.. but it can bring flowers and light into the dark and stormy day of another :)
