Causes is the world’s largest platform for activism and philanthropy. We empower individuals to create grassroots communities called “causes” that take action on behalf of a specific issue or nonprofit organization. Since our founding in 2007, Causes has brought together:

Every cause is a community for action, bringing people together and providing them with tools for fundraising, advocacy work, and awareness-raising. Cause members are incentivized to take action by recruiting their friends to join, donating or fundraising, educating themselves through videos and photos, discussing important issues, and more.

Our History

Causes was co-founded by Sean Parker and Joe Green. Sean’s background is in consumer internet products such as Napster, Plaxo, and Facebook and Joe comes from a background of grassroots organizing, having worked on the ground in political campaigns on the city, state, and presidential level. They combined their knowledge of offline organizing and online social networking to create Causes.

The company has raised $16 million in funding, and is backed by an impressive rosters of investors and advisors, a world-class team of leaders from the entrepreneurial, philanthropy, entertainment, and venture capital industries.

People

Currently, we have 22 employees working in our main office in San Francisco and our satellite office in Washington D.C. We’re devoted to bringing the best of Silicon Valley engineering and product design to the world of activism and philanthropy and have assembled a team that can go toe to toe with any around. Keeping in line with this goal, we have grown our team slowly and deliberately.
