As a young person and a political independent, my top financial priority is a truly Grand Bargain between Democrats and Republicans that puts us on a sustainable financial path, simplifies the tax code, makes the U.S. more attractive to business, and redoubles our efforts to have the strongest education system, the best infrastructure, and the most attractive climate for entrepreneurship in the world.

If the government does not put us on a path to financial sustainability today, our generation and particularly our children's generation will suffer the consequences of inaction. We will pay higher taxes, much of the money will go overseas in interest payments, and we will receive fewer benefits. Meanwhile, if we do not make strategic investments while we reduce our budget deficit – through a mixture of spending cuts and revenue increases – we will set America on a path to decline.
Now that the election's over, it is time for politicians to become legislators again and reach across the aisle to forge a “Grand Bargain” that meshes the financial priorities of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents; Urbanites, Suburbanites, and Ruralites; and young people and old people. If we all give a little, America will gain a lot.
Well said. Exactly what the US needs. I don't know if lawmakers are up to the challenge though. (I did hear, however, that the Senate is supposed to be revising its filibuster rules, which would be a wonderful thing)
Definitely would be a good first step. I'm not sure how much it would change things though...
Because we should be able to have financial aid for school it's important
As I got of Film school, I started to look for work, for some 10 years, finally went back to work doing technical jobs, but by now with back interest charges, my 37k student loan became 84k. Now I am paying 440.$ per month, 1/2 is accumulated interest, the rest is what I owe, If I am not working and making money but I am sending out resumes, 10 per day, why am I being charged 40k in interest. That is ridicules, and Institutions are failing due to expensive loans that the students can't pay back. This is strange, and I hope that my story is heard and helped with.
