EARTH ISLAND INSTITUTE INC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
Earth Island Institute grows environmental leadership through education and activism. Our projects, publications, and initiatives support the biological and cultural diversity that sustain the environment.
Earth Island Institute is a non-profit, public interest, membership organization that supports people who are creating solutions to protect our shared planet. http://www.eii.org/index.php/aboutUs/
Whether we are providing technical assistance to start-up organizations, highlighting the inspiring work of young leaders, or helping to restore damaged ecosystems, Earth Island Institute is working hard to grow and strengthen the environmental movement.
The legendary environmentalist David Brower and a group of dedicated environmental activists founded Earth Island Institute in 1982. Today we are the organizational home for more than 50 solutions-focused projects, including our International Marine Mammal Project, whose work to Save Japan Dolphins is featured in the Oscar winning film 'The Cove'.
Earth Island’s projects such as Energy Action, Plastic Pollution Coalition, Women's Earth Alliance, Bay Area Wilderness Training, Kids vs. Global Warming, and CA Student Sustainability Coalition are on the cutting edge of crucial social change movements. You can learn more about all of our projects at: http://bit.ly/EIIProjDir
In addition to our project support, Earth Island publishes the award-winning quarterly Earth Island Journal, supports emerging young environmental leaders with our New Leaders Initiatives and annual Brower Youth Awards, funds community-based wetlands restoration throughout southern CA, and engages the public with our Earth Island Presents . . . events at the David Brower Center in Berkeley, CA.
