Helping our Native Bats

Posted by Belinda on Jul 22

Bat populations are declining rapidly due to White Nose Syndrome, a fungus that kills bats as they hibernate. Some populations of little brown bats have been decimated by this syndrome. That makes our job of helping these bats even more valuable.

BLUE RIDGE WILDLIFE CENTER

Your donation goes to support the core mission of:
BLUE RIDGE WILDLIFE CENTER, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

The Blue Ridge Wildlife Center rescues injured, orphaned, and displaced native wildlife from the Northern Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. We provide any needed veterinary and rehabilitative care and then release the animals back into safe and appropriate habitat. We protect the community from injury and disease exposure by taking in native wildlife that has been picked up by the public, the police, animal shelters, veterinary hospitals, and conservation officers. We offer wildlife environmental education programs and an informational newsletter to the public to increase understanding of the important role wildlife plays in our environment. We keep the community informed about the health of our native wildlife because wildlife health is a sensitive indicator of environmental health.

Well this was the third or fourth injured bird I've found, but this is the first time I've found someone sincerely interested in truly treating and rehabilitating wildlife - Blue Ridge Wildlife. And... they actually assign a "patient number" to the animal/bird so that it's progress can be tracked. It's a tremedous job that they're doing and they need tremendous support.

We must save our native wildlife. We must try to rehabilitate them and release them back into their own habitat. With the building of houses and construction taking over their habitats where will they go if we don't give to this cause?
