I worked very closely with the denver Police Dept. in the early to mid 2000's. I'm well aware of the close ties these animals have with their officers and the intense training they undergo. These animals save lives, just as much as the rest of the officers. they deserve justice should some criminal do them harm.
I love animals, pure and simple. All dogs deserve love and respect, but a police dog is highly trained and has the distinct ability to help his human officers in all phases of crime. They love what they do...they don't ask to do it, they just do it! As far as I'm concerned, Police dogs deserve everything that police officer does. Vests, badges, medals, ranks, etc.
Animal are not property; especially police dogs. They are creatures created by God to be cherished and loved. Police dogs protect us and are vital in helping police officers track for scents to help find drugs, people, etc. Police officers consider them their partner as they would any human. We need to protect them and take care of them because they would do the same for us.

Canines are officers too and deserve the same justice as their partners.

they are not a "belonging" they are a living being and should be afforded such protection in the legal system.
They are there with their handler never asking but always giving. Give them respect!
I'm with a dog rescuer I n Alabama and I think all dog and service dog should be more recognition.
