Congress needs to consider that since January 20th at noontime to present 248 days that these are the latest coronavirus figures. Cases 18,675,322 new cases last 3 days 408,590. Deaths 425,819 new deaths last 3 days 10,428. President Trump had after one full year with a vaccine for the last 38 days of his time in office the following. Cases 24,717,808 Deaths 274,761. At this present rate Comrade dear leader Beijing Biden will have with 3 vaccines since day one in office at the end of his first year. Cases 27,485,857 Deaths 626,709. Yet Comrade dear leader Beijing Biden leaves the border wide open with no quarantine or testing and no vaccines required. Congress needs to demand the full closure of our borders and build the wall until this epidemic is over.

Perhaps our female population should just begin to get fitted for their burkas so they will no longer be able to tempt poor old innocent men with their kinky eye sex. If the Republican Faction is successful in their overthrow of democracy, I would give this a couple of years to become the law if the land. … … … Seriously, I am frightened by the Republican Faction’s tactics to take over our governance through seditious acts. We came fairly close to loosing our democracy with the trump’s attempted coup. The level of planning and coordinated actions by the many people involved is only now becoming clear. If it were not for a really few people who were unwilling to compromise their ethics for party political expediency, the trump would have been successful. … … … The first response of the GOP and it’s regimented State legislatures has been to make it more difficult for opposition supporting people to vote, to bully or redefine the roles of those who had a conscience and to move election management decisions directly to a partisan State legislature - with the authority to simply ignore the electorate and put whomever they choose into office. If these provisions would have existed during the time that the trump attempted to change election results, I have no doubt that he would have been successful. If these provisions are permitted to remain, I have no doubt that the trump will run again and ‘win’ no matter how the electorate votes. … … … The actions of the GOP and the Republican Faction are exactly those that tear established democracies asunder; stonewall and create problems for their opponents that their opponents must deal with in real time- like refusing to raise the debt ceiling to pay for the deficit debt which this faction created during the trump’s reign of terror, and then casting blame for that problem on their opponents. Similar to what the trump had done with immigrants on our southern border. He summarily canceled all humanitarian aid to northern triage countries - removing food resources and refugee camps where the people could be protected from the collapse of the government and transnational brutal gang rule. So they came in droves for sanctuary only to be demonized and grossly mistreated. All of these are tactics directly from the ‘Autocrats Handbook’. … … … The point is that the Republican Faction is leading the way to the collapse of our democratic governance, perhaps unintentionally as they are blinded by their lust for power and winning elections by any low-life underhanded scheme that helps them do so. … … … It is time to get them and their tactics out if the way so that a new, principled conservative party can form - one that honors traditional norms and that is willing to work for the benefit of our country, the people and the protection of our country’s future.

Leslie G: I remain convinced that the only way to get to a government which is truly of, by and for the people is to remove the corrupting influence of big money from politicians. Just think of the time they waste pandering to their donors and soliciting new ones. The Republican Faction would dissipate since there would be no compelling reason for them to continue their drive to stay in office by any means possible. Biden's agenda would be unlocked immediately if certain Democratic legislators were not beholden to pharma and oil big-money donors. Just imagine a legislature composed of only people who want to legislate and not use the privileges' granted to them by the electorate to enrich themselves. DISGUSTING!

Frank-001: The problem with big money influence of politicians is not so much the funds that they can campaign with - but rather the big money gifts, investment tips, diverted campaign funds and funds that go into their pockets as ‘soft’ money.

Absolutely! A woman has the right to control her own body. Abortions fall under that right.

Frank-001, Leslie G: I suspect that the Democrats did not want to give the Republican Faction some talking points to distract from the pressing legislation at hand. This vote was for an allocation of funds to support military budget, and not the actual allocation of funds. Lots can happen between now and then.

Jim I considered that but didn't want to press onto bribery — a whole other story. But we definitely should examine it. We should begin by looking at Ethics Rules for the House & Senate. Both sets are pretty strict. But lots of tricky parts. I imagine that the so-called soft money can be the ruination of many careers. If they are found & exposed. Big IFs which is why I didn't make unfounded allegations. House Rules FAQs About Gifts Q. Can a Member or employee accept a gift from a lobbyist? A. A Member, officer, or employee may not accept any gift, except as the rule specifically provides. Thus, unless a gift falls into one of the categories of acceptable gifts, it may not be accepted. In addition to the prohibition on lobbyists and foreign agent gifts under the general gift rule provision, the rule also expressly prohibits the acceptance of certain other gifts from registered lobbyists and foreign agents. The other gifts that are expressly prohibited are as follows: “Anything provided by a registered lobbyist or an agent of a foreign principal to an entity that is maintained or controlled by a Member, . . . officer, or employee of the House.” (House Rule 25, clause 5(e)(1)); ... https://ethics.house.gov/gifts/gifts-faqs Also Gifts Guidance https://ethics.house.gov/house-ethics-manual/gifts Senate Rules Gifts - U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics https://www.ethics.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/gifts To be honest, if I were a Media Mogul I'd have teams of paparazzi following every major politician 24/7 and a team of competent journalists analyzing photos, schedules, etc. Every once in a while — nice career ending exposes of politicians from the Left, Center, or Right No Matter Wasn't that once common practice? @JimK wrote: Frank-001: The problem with big money influence of politicians is not so much the funds that they can campaign with - but rather the big money gifts, investment tips, diverted campaign funds and funds that go into their pockets as ‘soft’ money.

Causes wouldn’t let me add a new comment where this one should be. So here I am. My ancient Representative (who has never represented me in any way) voted that States should decide whether to allow abortions or not! Hope you rot, Don Young!

Did you ever think it's Not Big Money Maybe it's HUGE APATHY. Lately, I think that the way to get to a government that has representatives genuinely representing their constituents requires serious reform. Currently, except in severe ethical breaches, and even then, we only have elections to change our Representatives and Senators. We have no way to compel a congressperson to represent a district or state's majority. There are little to none accountability mechanisms in place. Congress people have too much latitude. Think, take any of the regular commenters here on Causes does anyone really believe that a large print or media campaign can sway @Carina, @PattiZ, jimK, Leslie G, Dorothy, the darkside, Dave, Sharon, Adel, LaRubia, etc. I'd bet money that they wont be. So, perhaps, the money argument is less strong than we have been programmed (gasklit?) to think. (I do accept that it has some influence but not as much as the echo chambers keep echoing.) On the other hand, my sense is that few call or write or email their representatives. If nothing else that creates contempt for the electorate. @jimK wrote: "Leslie G: I remain convinced that the only way to get to a government which is truly of, by and for the people is to remove the corrupting..." Apropos of ... Everything Is anyone aware of any representative's or senator's office polling their constituency for their opinion on any piece of legislation? I have never been asked by any elected official ever. How many people are regularly proactive in contacting their representatives? Besides money's influence, I think there is a massive disconnect between the citizenry and elected officials.

Yes I support federal protection of Abortion and all human rights as states have continuously demonstrated a profound recalcitrance in supporting all human and civil rights without federal protection of the standard. We cannot and must not allow the backwardness and stubborn resistance of a few belligerent regional folks to repress the human rights of anyone in our great nation — especially women.

@Leslie wondered aloud (possibly intending sarcasm) why some 74% of the House of Representatives voted to spend $768 Billion on the 2022 Military Budget when only 13% of @Causes posters support it. Some observations, questions and a strong suggestion. Isn't it interesting that there was virtually no organized effort opposing the military budget? I think that doing so would result in political suicide for the many politicians who might support substantial cuts. Isn't it interesting that no major media voice presented an cogent and persuasive argument to limit any cut to spending on the military? Anybody hear or see any of the numerous minor players doing so? Anyway.... If you haven't recently read, listened to or watched President Dwight Eisenhower’s Farewell Address, you should. Despite his great success as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe, and having achieved the rank Five-Star General of the Army. and, as it turned out, being the only general to be elected president in the 20th century, he warned the nation with regard to the *** corrupting influence of what he describes as the "military-industrial complex." *** https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military%E2%80%93industrial_complex? Watch the speech here: https://youtu.be/OyBNmecVtdU Read or Listen to the Farewell Address here: "American Rhetoric: Dwight D. Eisenhower -- Farewell Address" https://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/dwightdeisenhowerfarewell.html A analysis putting the speech in context here: https://youtu.be/Gg-jvHynP9Y Read about the farewell address https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisenhower's_farewell_address? Also includes an audio recording. Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower GCB, OM, RE, GCS, CCLH, KC, NPk (/ˈaɪzənhaʊ.ər/; October 14, 1890 – March 28, 1969) was an American military officer and statesman who served as the 34th president of the United States from 1953 to 1961. During World War II, he served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe, and achieved the rare five-star rank of General of the Army. He was responsible for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942–1943 and the successful invasion of Normandy in 1944–1945 from the Western Front.

It should be a federal law because some states will use religion to control their constituents and force them to go out of state to get the services they need. Make sure that physicians aren’t required to do services they don’t believe in personally. Every person makes their own decisions regarding themselves. This abortion issue has to be addressed now at a federal level so this country can move on And the politicians won’t have this political football to throw around every voting cycle!

Abortion is a personal, medical decision. That decision should be protected as a woman’s right and politicians, alleged Christians, and all others need to stay out of it.
