IT: Debt limit Senate showdown, and... Should the government support personnel suffering from ‘Havana Syndrome’?
Join us and tell your reps how you feel!
Welcome to, Thursday, September 23rd, honeys and agaves...
House Democrats voted to advance a stopgap funding bill that includes a suspension of the debt limit until mid-December 2022, setting up a Senate showdown with Republicans.
Republicans have signaled for months that they oppose the debt limit hike and argue Democrats should raise it on their own through reconciliation. The standoff comes ahead of a September 30th deadline to fund the government and avoid a partial government shutdown.
GOP lawmakers have argued that Democrats should use the budget reconciliation process to raise the debt limit, given that they’re already using it to advance a partisan $3.5 trillion spending plan.
Democrats would prefer to not use reconciliation because they would likely have to specify a dollar amount for the new debt limit (the national debt is currently about $28.7 trillion). A suspension of the debt limit - as proposed in the House Democrats’ bill - would allow the federal government to rack up an indefinite amount of debt incurred through December 16, 2022.
Should Democrats raise the debt limit via reconciliation if there's no Republican support?

Havana Sound Machine
The HAVANA Act of 2021 would authorize the CIA, Dept. of State, and other agencies to provide payments to agency personnel who incur brain injuries from hostilities while on assignment.
“Havana syndrome” is a mysterious illness that first emerged in Cuba in 2016. The first cases were among CIA officers so they were kept secret, but more recent cases have included diplomatic personnel from the State Dept. at outposts around the world. The personnel and family members reported a wide range of symptoms, including hearing noises ranging from a low hum or buzzing to “piercing squeals” along with intense pressure in the skull, a feeling of heat or pressure, or dizziness and fatigue for months. It’s unclear what caused the symptoms, although officials from CIA and State Dept. officials believe they may have been the result of an attack that used pulses of high-powered microwaves.
Both the House and Senate have passed the Havana Act.
Should the gov’t provide payments to people suffering from ‘Havana Syndrome’?
24-hour Youth Climate Strike in Los Angeles Sept 24-25
On September 25th, thousands of climate strikes will take place across the world, including a 24-Hour Youth Climate Strike in Los Angeles.
Per NooWorld:
"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report released last month demonstrated that we have even less time than we previously thought, making it even more urgent that our politicians take comprehensive action on the crisis immediately. We will be targeting Big Oil in this action and demanding freedom from fossil fuels."

Raise debt ceiling now stop messing with our credit no default
Stop the nonsense and fund our government. Anything less is totally unacceptable.
In order for the government to function the way it was designed is for we have to get rid of the cancer that has plagued our country for many years, career politicians like Mitch McConnell, That use our system to benefit the top one percent. We also have to replace all the people who are so old and won’t budge from their old and unmovable ideas and let us move forward out of this impasse. We need to have people that will govern for the masses and the good of country. We are not the same country that we were when we were formed. We have evolved and so should our country. It’s just isn’t working the way it is now. One person, one vote. No Church involvement, no business buying favors! Bring back the fairness doctrine! Control social media companies to stop the spread of lies! Get rid of the debt ceiling so the politicians don’t use it to control us. Set age limits for politicians! Set qualifications for government jobs like the the president. Come on young people, rise up and meet the challenge and make this country better. Americans, elect people who do the right thing and speak the truth!
I had to post here: @Dorothy's opined: "When are we going to stop the gravy train to Israel. We have major problems here that could make better use of the money. " @Dorothy, In my experience, it is better to say we need to have, let's say, a more nuanced opinion about Israel, even among some Progressives. Recall, it's been a highly complex entanglement. Without solid allies, Israel will soon go out of existence; therefore, Many Americans with strong ties to Israel make sure our representatives "remember" that. I almost wouldn't mind, but the Israeli government has been far too aggressive against the Palestinians. By all recent accounts, Israel treats Palestinians like third-class citizens, and last I read, Israel practices virtual apartheid. That must end. I don't know if much is changing with Benjamin Netanyahu finally out of office. But not a few American Jews do not want to hear any of it. For some, it boils down to '"Jews Good. Arabs Bad." No shading. It's just nuts! Anyway…. That billion is a "done deal." In the end, given the fluidity of Middle East politics, it just might be money well spent. After all, if the billion fortified the dome, Israel could spend more on intelligence activities. Perhaps critically necessary with the Rise of the Taliban. Did you read about what some Taliban leader named Mullah Nooruddin Turabi said? Executions are returning, and that hands and feet will be chopped off in return to his idea of Sharia Law! With that I want multiple strong footholds in the Mideast. See "Taliban official: Strict punishment, executions will return "KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — One of the founders of the Taliban and the chief enforcer of its harsh interpretation of Islamic law when they last ruled Afghanistan said the hard-line movement will once again carry out executions and amputations of hands, though perhaps not in public. Off Topic, but here it is..... Some KARMA for the right.... Several websites have already reported this ..... Link: https://www.businessinsider.com/epik-hack-reveals-proud-boys-qanon-backers-names-addresses-2021-9 ... From the article .... "Hackers last week breached a major web platform that helped far-right groups like the Proud Boys and QAnon operate online. About 15 million names, phone numbers, email addresses, and physical addresses held by the platform, Epik, were revealed. The hacking group Anonymous claimed credit for the breach."
Thank you, Andy! 😊❤️😊❤️ That was WONDERFUL information? You JUST MADE MY DAY!
Common sense will tell you that havana syndrome is a targeted weapon. Only specific people from the government seem to be impacted. To downplay and not pursue seriously and aggressively is downright stupid. To appoint a retired former state diplo to ‘look into’ this is even more stupid. You need an experienced heavyweight to pursue any and all avenues and employ substantial resources to protect our people!
Republicans need to be voted out.
Let’s defend against the use of the weapon that cause Havana syndrome and let’s care for the victims.
The debt limit should be suspended forever. It is redundant to decisions to spend money and serves only to allow politicians to posture, usually without knowing what they’re talking about. While debt can get out of control it is also not wise to follow blindly a policy of balancing the federal budget. The government is not like a household in this regard and, for that matter, households have good reasons to incur debt from time to time (how else do most families buy houses?). It is tautological in a financial system for saving to equal borrowing across all sectors of the economy. It follows that if households generally seek to save, other sectors—businesses, governments, and the rest of the world—must collectively borrow. To put it differently, if the government always balanced its budget there would be no government securities for the rest of the economy to invest in. Finally, the link between debt and the money supply is a loose one, controlled by the Federal Reserve, and the link from both to the value of the dollar (whether measured by prices or the exchange rate) is looser still, the latter highly dependent on the confidence of foreign investors in the notion that the United States will honor its financial obligations. The surest way to crush the dollar exchange rate is to vote against raising, or preferably suspending, the federal debt ceiling.
Havana syndrome is a major national security threat. We should be combatting it and caring for the victims the same way we would for a physical attack
SHUT DOWN the Federal Government. We need to have a balanced budget. Increasing our debt only diminishes the value of our dollar! STOP THE DEVALUATION OF OUR MONEY SUPPLY!
Remember what happened the last time you shut down the government.
