Would You Support a Government Shutdown Over Border Wall Funding?
Vote to see how others feel about this issue
- President Donald Trump is demanding full funding for his U.S.-Mexico border wall, increasing the chances for a partial government shutdown next week as myriad budget appropriation bills expire on December 7.
- “The president, he’s interested in $5 billion; how do we get there? You can configure it in different ways,” Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-AL) told reporters as Congress returned to session after a week-long Thanksgiving break. He added that Trump told Republicans the number was a red line and he would not settle for less.
- Democrats have rejected the $5 billion figure and have only agreed to $1.6 billion.
- On Thanksgiving, Trump told reporters that a shutdown over the wall “could happen.”
“Could there be a shutdown? There certainly could,” Trump said. “And it will be about border security, of which the wall is a part.”
