About

GJAE exists to provide an uncompromising voice for animal and environmental defense and indigeneous solidarity in the fight against free trade agreements and related neoliberal economic policies.

Global Justice for Animals and the Environment exists to provide an
uncompromising voice for animals in the fight against pro-corporate free
trade agreements and related neoliberal economic policies that compromise the interests, nonhuman animals, and damage the environment. We also work in solidarity with and in support of the rights of indigenous communities in their struggles to defend the earth from the exploitative practices of extractive industries and to preserve their sustainable ways of life.

At the national level and in cities around the world, we work to build alliances between animal and environmental advocates and other sectors of the global justice movement.

Our research team provides animal and environmental advocacy groups,
members of Congress, and the broader global justice movement with in-depth
analysis of the threat to animals and the planet posed by proposed trade agreements.

As advocates, we mobilize local, national, and international animal and environmental advocacy groups to pressure elected officials to oppose anti-animal, anti-environmental free trade agreements—and to hold them accountable when they vote against animals and the planet.

To provide activists with the tools they need for effective grassroots lobbying
efforts on free trade agreements, we develop resource kits for animal and environmental advocacy groups

To demonstrate that responsible animal and environmental advocacy organizations stand united against NAFTA-style free trade agreements, we draft “sign-on letters”, circulate them to animal and environmental advocacy organizations to endorse, and fax them to every member of Congress. In 2005, we sent a letter to Congress in opposition to the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement—with the endorsement of 103 animal advocacy and environmental organizations.

Working with the media, we inform the public that pro-corporate trade agreements endanger animals and the planet,
and that people who care about animals and the environment must demand that their legislators oppose them.

Global Justice for Animals and the Environment is a 100% volunteer-run project. With a background in animal and
environmental advocacy, global justice activism, indigenous rights advocacy, and political action, we have the contacts,
the experience, and the knowledge to give animals and the planet a fighting chance in the battle for global justice.

1. Abolish the WTO, repeal NAFTA, CAFTA, and Peru FTA, & scrap the Panama, Colombia, and S. Korea Free Trade Agreements.

2. Respect animals as autonomous beings with basic rights to life and self-determination. Animals are not ours to kill, enslave, or torture.

3. Promote sustainable local economies as the only sane alternative to global trade in the age of peak oil & global climate change.

4. Abolish globalized factory farm agriculture and shift to local, sustainable, and plant-based food.

5. Support indigenous resistance to mining, logging, & oil dri lling. Respect indigenous people as teachers on how to live in balance with the earth.
