PsychRights' Mission is to mount a strategic litigation campaign against forced psychiatric drugging and electroshock in the United States

The pervasive use of psychiatric drugs to treat psychiatric symptoms has been a dismal failure. The rate of disability because of diagnoses of mental illness has increased six-fold since the introduction of the supposedly miracle drug Thorazine in the mid- 1950's. While PsychRights supports people's right to take these drugs if they so choose, it insists they should be told the truth about them and, most importantly to its mission, that people should not be forced to take them agains their will. Due to massive growth in psychiatric drugging of children and youth and the current targeting of them for even more psychiatric drugging, PsychRights has made attacking this problem a priority. Children are virtually always forced to take these drugs because it is the adults in their lives who are making the decision. This is an unfolding national tragedy of immense proportions. Much more information is available on PsychRights' website at http://psychrights.org.

1. People should not be forced to take psychiatric drugs or given electroshock against their will. Period.

2. People should be told the truth about the harm caused by psychiatric drugs and electroshock and the lack of benefits for most.

3. People should be given choices besides psychiatric drugs or electroshock.

4. The massive, inappropriate and harmful psychiatric drugging of children and youth must be stopped.
