Secure Justice For Michael Brown

After I immigrated to the USA with my parents in November of 1957, I quickly learned about racism and Anti Semitism. In fact, on our first full day in the USA my mother -- without realizing what she was doing -- caused a scene because she and I sat in the back o the bus. Back then this is where people "of color" were forced to sit. This was in supposedly liberal Hollywood, FL, a very fast growing city that identified with what was then called Dade County and is now called Miami-Dade. My high school was all white in those days and I didn't go to school with any African American students until the fall of 1963 when I attended at was is now called Broward Community College from which I graduated in 1965. Then I transferred to the University of Florida in 1965. Gainesville was somewhat more progressive than most Southern cities because of the influence of the university. Once you got out the city into the rest of Alachua Country in those days, you might as well have been in Alabama or Mississippi. And even at the university there was a lot of racism and Anti Semitism. My first cousin, who is a cardiologist and internist, was a graduate student then because despite excellent grades didn't get into the UF's Medical School. The editor of the student newspaper, The Alligator, a close friend of mine and his brother in neighboring Red Neck Union County was the superintendent of school. The editor on a visit home asked his brother about my cousin's difficulty into getting into Medical School. The superintended told his brother, "Tell Ray, it is very simple, they have a Jewish quota and let in only so many Jews in one year." My cousin got engaged an his soon to be in-laws had connections to the private University of Miami and he got into the UM Medical School the next year. He became an internist and cardiologist and was the chief doctor of a then Humana Hospital. However, he was originally going to become a surgeon and the delay along with the fact that he and his wife had two daughters prevented that. I also learned about Anti Sermitism when I worked for Middlesboro newspaper in Kentucky. The paper circulated in three counties, one in Kentucky, one in Virginia and one in Tennessee. On the first day I was sent to a shooting scene in Tennessee. The Red Neck Republican sheriff made Anti Semitic remarks to me and sort of made clear he only tolerates Jews in order to try to avoid tough questions. Later I did an investigation regarding his brother, who was a judge of what in the East Coast is called Circuit Court and on the West Coast Superior Court. Under law, the elected clerk of that court is also the clerk of the lower court. But the judge illegally took over the clerk of the lower court by, in effect, appointing the editor of a newspaper he was aligned with clerk. I was just about finished with the investigation and ready to write the story when the judge had a heart attack. My paper had a very conservative editor and publisher and they refused to go with a story while the judge was in the hospital. Meanwhile, the district attorney, who was the DA for several counties, filed suit. During that period every time I went to the courthouse in that country several deputy sheriff cars would follow me all the way to the Kentucky state line. BTW I mentioned this sheriff was Republican, but this had nothing to do with this. He was jusy a pure Red Neck and you had those in the South and many were Democrats, Dixiecrat types.

Stop Dark Money And Billionaires From Deceiving Voters!

Because we lost a home in Fontana through outright fraud in which the bank way overstated our income. That bank then sold that loan to another financial institution and the original lender bet that our loan would fail by betting against this on the derivative market. Unfortunately, all this was made possible by legislation passed by Congress by Republican US Sen. Phil Gramm who didn't seek re-election and became the lobbyist for the Swiss banking giant UBS. That bank later had to be bailed out as part of the over three quarter of a $1 trillion bailout of banks. Gramm was the key economic adviser to the 2008 presidential candidate, Sen. John S, mcCain of Arizona and would have become his treasury secretary had McCain won. But regulation of banks are both federal and state functions. And by having "dark money" the banks have -- through the Citizens United decision, in effect legalizing campaign bribery, that was handed down by the CORPORATE/REPUBLICAN MAJORITY on the US Supreme Court BEEN ABLE TO GET MONEY to secretly make campaign donations to key players in Sacramento. They, in turn, have protected the financial institutions against state liability.

Tell Congress To Suspend Bee Toxic Pesticides

Because bees produce honey and it is an important food. Also these toxic elements are NOT NEEDED. It might be a little more expensive for these mega farmers -- who get all kind of subsidies from Uncle Sam, mostly not to grow crops. This at a time when hunger in the world -- and even in the USA -- is still a big problem. JFK was shocked when he saw it in Kentucky and West Virginia. Yet 50 years after his death we still see it. But Republicans are blocking everything in Congress just because they want to destroy anyything President Barack Obama accomplished -- including THEIR HEALTH PLAN -- their "ALTERNATIVE (to President Bill Clinton's) HILLARYCARE." They would rather the American people have no universal ehalthcare rather than let an African American president THEY HATE get credit for enacting major healthcare reform. I know I deviated from the immediate issue at hand. But not really because Republicans -- especially the Tea PartyGOPgoons who hold their party hostage -- will automatically oppose anything President Obama is for. It's essential to them that he not succeed. They would rather F the country. Obama must be destroyed at all cost and as a retired political, government and investigative reporter for over 20 years in Kentucky -- 14 for a former Knight-Ridder paper now owned by McClatchy -- I am determined to FIGHT BACK. Please help our cause. We can't succeed without people like you. Please help and get your friends to do likewise.

Help Bring Corrupt Government Officials To Justice

My father-in-law, Simon J. Epstein, who died last December at the age of 95 was a victim of a fraud committed by a woman much younger. She was young enouh to be his daughter, really his granddaughter. The woman who committed this fraud died earlier this year of breast cancer. Part 1 of 2 parts. Let me at the outset say I am NOT INTERESTED in REHASHING the CASE and. therefore, I will not name any names or give great details about what happened. I am only naming my father-in law, Simon J. Epstein, a World War II veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. The woman who took care of him, was young enough to be his daughter and actually his granddaughter. She died earlier this year, so I am not going to name her or give great details about the case. Sufficient to say that before he died last December she went through $100,000 of his money. My sole interest in discussing this case is to get both state of Nevada and federal legislation to prevent future such frauds. We had lost our home in Fontana, CA to a fraudulent loan by a company that way overstated our income. Because of our poor financial situation we were unable to file a guardianship because we could not get Pro Bono help. A contested guardianship is complex and time consuming, therefore, any free help is just about impossible to get. In part 2, I am going to discuss solutions to fully protect veterans against potential abuses by both professional caregivers as well as family caregivers.

Stop Rush Limbaugh's Attacks

The Corporate Press is so politicized now a days that they have at least one person with strong ties to whatever administration is in power. When I worked 14 years for the Lexington Herald-Leader from July of 1974 to July 1988, I saw that with the two papers -- one Democratic and one Republican with a combined Saturday and Sunday paper on those weekend days. I had a unique first hand view of that because I was Frankfort (the capital) Bureau Chief for six years and also President of The Newspaper Guild (TNG) local. I think it was about a year before I came to the paper that Knight-Ridder purchased those two papers from a local owner. It appointed as its watchdog of our papers one Don Carter, FIRST COUSIN of a rising Democratic politician running for president, Jimmy Carter. Their fathers were brothers. Before I was appointed the state government bureau chief, I had to pass an interview with Don Carter. He was a very tricky sort of guy. I will never forget his first question was what your favorite pro football team? It seemed like an innocent little question. It was anything, but. He was testing me if I was going to say the Atalanta Falcons because Macon is near Atlanta. I suspected a trap and decided to answer the question honestly, I said, the Miami Dolphins. And he then said,"it;s not the Atlanta Falcons?" As Jimmy's career was advancing toward the White House so was Don's Knight-Ridder. First, he became our publisher. Then he became Knight-Ridder Vice President for Non-Metropolitan papers, small and medium sized newspapers. During my tenure at the paper, the two papers were merged and a new $23 million building was constructed "to anchor" the eastern downtown. Playing it ever right politically, Knight-Ridder picked the two largest and politically connected architectural firms jointly to construct the new building. They worked closely with editors and reporters to custom build the building. But two such firms are not used to work with another firm and a time it became a joke. For instance when the firms submitted what was supposed to be the final plan, it was discovered they had forgotten to put in the library. Meanwhile, Knight-Ridder had its own political/economic problwm in Detroit. There the morning paper, the Kinght-Ridder owned The Detroit Free-Press, and the evening Gannett newspaper got into a totally ridiculous circulation war. Gannett then was the largest newspaper chain in the country and Knight-Ridder was the second largest. They both were afraid of their papers going under. So the two decided on what is known as a "Joint Operating Agreement," JOA. Under such an agreement, the two newsrooms and the editorial policies remain separate. But one paper usually is in charge of the advertising, circulation/distribution, and other non-news functions. This, of course, with such big papers, means a loss of hundreds of jobs. TNG was, of course, opposed. Since such an arrangement require and exemption of the Anti Trust Law, a waiver must be approved by the US Attorney General. At the time Edwin Meese was the attorney general of the Ronald Reagan Administration. So concerned was Knight-Ridder that it actually sent out a corporate memo telling all its newspapers and other media entities that while Meese is considering this waiver none of them could have any editorials that are critical of Meese. Not surprisingly, the memo got leaked to the trade publication Editor and Publisher and the article was highly embarrassing to Knight-Ridder. But Knight-Ridder was using all their board members -- including Democratic insider Clark Clifford, who was instrumental in putting together the ticket of John F. Kenney and Lyndon B. Johnson in 1960 to lobby for approval of the JOA. The administrative judge for Meese recommended the JOA not be granted. The strategy worked. On the way out the door Meese approved the JOA.

Justice For Wolfy The Bucoda Dog

I have a very hyper, but very intelligent jack Russell. I simply can't stand people who abuse and even torture dogs and other animals. They are sick people and need to go to jail for their crimes and ve required to take mandatory counseling before they can be released. It has been reported -- not as prominently as it should be considering he ran for governor of Texas, the second most populous state, and for president of th USA that George Walker Bush, abused dogs as a teenager.
