My mother and oldest brother died of overdoses January 20th 2003 so this subject is close to my heart. Also...I was almost a statistic myself but I was lucky enough to find a way out. I am one of the "lucky" ones but so many GOOD people have not been so lucky and I feel it is my obligation to help a fellow addict in any way that I can and I feel that this cause can help me to do that. Life is so short and precious and everyone deserves a chance to enjoy it. I feel that addicts get a bad rap because of the nature of the disease that thay have. Addicts are sick people who need help NOT bad people. Some of the smartest and most talented people I know are addicts. They just need the right help. My mom and brother were two of the most loving people I've ever known. They were robbed of their lives and died too soon and they didn't have to. If they had gotten the right help things could have been different. They might still be here today. I'm hoping to help raise enough awareness to get other addicts the help they need and the help they deserve so that they know that there is a way out and that they CAN live a better life and they don't have to suffer in the grips of addiction. More importantly...they don't have to die from this disease. It's treatable and help is out there!!!! I'm LIVING proof!!
