Save The Mekong River’s Irrawaddy Dolphin

A message from the leader WWF (World Wildlife Fund / World Wide Fund for Nature) Sign the Petition to Mr. Goh Nan Kioh, Executive Chairman of Mega First, Posted By: WWF (World Wildlife Fund / World Wide Fund for Nature) (campaign leader) Just 85 Irrawaddy dolphins survive today in a small stretch of the Mekong River in Cambodia. And now, they are being threatened by a newly proposed hydropower project, the Don Sahong Dam. The Don Sahong Dam is not just bad news for Mekong dolphins: It will have dire consequences for the food security and livelihoods of the people who rely on the Mekong River's rich fisheries. Growing up along the Mekong River, we know how powerful its waters can be. The Mekong—known as "our mother" to locals—is more than a great river; it is a way of life for more than 60 million people. Giving life to the world's largest inland fisheries, the Mekong is second only to the Amazon River in terms of fish biodiversity. We must protect this stunning river that holds such a variety of species. Help us stop the development of this dam by signing our petition today. With enough support, we can save the Mekong River's Irrawaddy dolphins and other wildlife that will surely be impacted by this dam. Details about the dam The dam would be located about half a mile upstream from the river dolphins' core habitat. Damaging noise and habitat destruction resulting from possible construction are major threats. Contractors plan to excavate millions of tons of rock with explosives that would generate strong sound waves, potentially killing the Mekong River's sound-sensitive dolphins. Increased boat traffic and changes in water quality represent other major risks to the species' survival. Mega First, the project developers, are entering hydropower development for the first time and have never before built a dam. They have not responded satisfactorily to calls by governments and civil society groups for proper transboundary studies to fully understand the impact and consequences of the proposed dam With construction set to begin later this year, the clock is ticking for these rare and revered river dolphins. Take action today and tell the developers to do the right thing and stop the project If Mega First moves forward based on current plans, the Don Sahong Dam will become a dangerous experiment that could mean permanent damage to the Mekong River's ecosystem Please sign our petition and tell Mega First to suspend work on the Don Sahong Dam. With your support, we can rally to avoid the destruction of the Mekong River's precious wildlife. Urge Major Carriers To Ban Trophy Hunting Shipments.

Прошу подписаться под обращением к Alaska Airlines, DHL, Fed Ex, UPS https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/14f310a9936b0977 Alaska Airlines, DHL, Fed Ex, UPS To Major Carriers Still Transporting Trophy Hunting Shipments: We pledge to stop or restrict our use of your services until such time as you ban all animal trophy hunting shipments worldwide. Please reconsider your decision to continue to ship animal trophy hunting remains. You have the power to end the needless suffering of thousands of animals annually. The nominal amount of money you receive from these shipments would be drastically overshadowed by the beneficial press & revenue you would receive. Doing the right thing for these animals around the globe, especially at this time, would endear you to tens of millions of people around the globe. This is certainly better than the alternative of those same people, many of whom are represented here, pledging to stop using your services till you become more responsible global partners.
