I've been told that passing out during your period is normal. I've been told that bleeding for months at a time is normal. I've been diagnosed by an OB/GYN with depression two minutes into the visit based solely on two symptoms-- heavy bleeding and pelvic pain. Another popular diagnosis is constipation. One doctor accused me of making up my symptoms 'just to get birth control', as though I were seeking drugs.
The lack of education and diagnostic skills among OB/GYNs is absolutely unacceptable. It took a fifteen years and over twenty doctors before I found specialists who knew anything about endometriosis-- and even among those doctors, I found conflicting information and misinformation (for example, having a baby will cure endometriosis).
This is a public health crisis and it needs to be addressed immediately.

We hope that if enough people sign this petition, it will strengthen the message being sent to ACOG that the standards of care for endometriosis need to change. Educated endometriosis patients, advocates, and medical professionals who operate on complex cases daily, do not agree with the standards of care that ACOG professes.
