As the new Congress is sworn in today, Sen. John Thune (S.D.), in a CNN op-ed, sums up the challenges they will address:

"More than five years after the recession officially ended, too many Americans are still feeling the pinch. Wages have remained stagnant, and median household income has dropped almost $3,000 on the President’s watch. Meanwhile, prices for everything from groceries to education have risen. And instead of helping, most of the administration’s policies have had a negative impact on the economy. Just last week we learned from an employer survey that a majority of small businesses say that Obamacare has reduced their profits, causing many of them to freeze or cut workers’ wages or reduce other benefits... [O]ur economy is still nowhere near where it should be."

Thune is right. But as he also notes, “there is reason to be hopeful” because the new, conservative-led Congress “will get right to work on job-creating legislation” to produce the robust, sustained economic growth Americans have been waiting for.

We can do even more for working families: Conservative leaders like Sen. Mike Lee (UT) and Sen. Marco Rubio (FL) are fighting to expand the child tax credit to let families keep more of what they earn. Invite your friends and family to join us as petition-signers today so we can put this important policy front-and-center in the new Congress!
