Update #11 ·

BREAKING NEWS: Gov. Nixon can secure #JusticeForMikeBrown

On Monday, Governor Nixon announced a state of emergency in Missouri, which is the latest in his continued failure to do what is necessary to secure justice for Mike Brown. The best way to restore peace and calm in Missouri is to remove County Attorney Robert McCulloch and arrest Officer Darren Wilson for killing 18-year old Mike Brown.

The latest news of a state of emergency means that Gov. Nixon now has the power himself to appoint a special prosecutor who could then charge and arrest Officer Wilson.  The current grand jury was set up to fail. Prosecutor McCulloch could have arrested Officer Wilson the day he killed Mike Brown, but instead McCulloch convened a grand jury to insulate himself from any political accountability for his decision prevent justice for Mike Brown. And instead of selecting which evidence was presented to the jury or recommending any charges, as all prosecutors do, McCulloch made the highly unusual decision to do neither. And in a world where jury's overwhelming indict depending on a prosecutor's lead, McCulloch's grand jury is expected to perform exactly as he set it up to.

Any day now,  the grand jury will make their announcement and the latest indications are that Officer Wilson will likely not be charged. But there is still time for Gov. Nixon to do what is right. Make sure to share this campaign to increase pressure on Gov. Nixon to appoint a special prosecutor before it's too late.

Michael Brown's killer may never be held accountable — unless President Obama and US Attorney General Holder take action. Tell them to indict Officer Darren Wilson and to overhaul the local and state policies and practices that led to Mike Brown's death, as well as those that perpetuate the nationwide crisis of discriminatory policing.  Today, a St. Louis Grand Jury refused to indict Mike…
