Uprising of Love: A Benefit Concert for Global Equality

Dear friends:

We hope you are enjoying the summer and finding opportunities to share your love with friends, family, and others in your community. It starts with us!

As you will recall, Uprising of Love was created in the months leading up to the Olympics as a movement to speak out for LGBTI Russians. Together, we helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Russia Freedom Fund, supporting LGBTI groups in Russia that are effective at combatting discrimination and violence.

In no way is our work to support LGBTI Russians complete, but we feel like we cannot ignore the harassment, abuse and violence that LGBTI people are facing in other countries beyond Russia, such as Uganda, Nigeria, Jamaica, Brunei, and elsewhere. For this reason, we are dramatically expanding the scope of Uprising of Love beyond Putin's borders, and hope to tell the stories, provide material support, and spread awareness for all LGBTI people who are living without safety and dignity, wherever they are in the world.

On September 15th, Executive Producers Stephen Schwartz and Uprising of Love co-founder Bruce Cohen will present Uprising of Love: A Benefit Concert for Global Equality at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre in New York City. Featuring performances by 16-time Grammy Award-winner Sting and two-time Tony Award and two-time Grammy Award-winner Patti LuPone, written by our co-founder Dustin Lance Black, and in strategic partnership with the United Nations Foundation, this event strives to influence global leaders to advocate for equal rights globally for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex individuals, and to raise significant funding for grassroots organizations and activists working toward that goal around the world.

The net proceeds of this event will go directly to Fueling the Frontlines, a campaign for global LGBTI rights led by the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, the only philanthropic organization in the United States solely dedicated to advancing LGBTI rights globally.

We hope that you will be able to join us at this event or make a contribution to allow someone else to go! We promise that it will be entertaining and inspiring, weaving together stories and performances by activists and artists from around the world. You won't want to miss it!

Love always,
