Update #53 ·

Terence Blanchard and Marcus Strickland withdraw from Red Sea Jazz Festival

Great news!

As our petition calling on Jazz musicians to boycott the Red Sea Jazz Festival surpasses its latest milestone of 10.000 signatories, the 2 biggest scheduled acts, Terence Blanchard and Marcus Strickland, withdraw from the festival. Though reasons of support for the Palestinian people were not cited by neither of the artists, we at the '10 Reasons for Cultural Boycott of Israel' campaign find it hard to ignore the recent horrific circumstances, which have led many celebrities, artists, and athletes to withdraw their business from Israel.

We expect that new artists, to take Blanchard's and Strickland's place on the festival lineup, will be announced within the next couple of days, and will update as soon as it happens.

If you haven't SIGNed the petition yet, please head on to https://www.causes.com/actions/1757955-dont-let-th... and please don't forget to SHARE with all your friends, via email and your social networks.

The Red Sea Jazz Festival is a bi-yearly event in Israel's city of Eilat. The festival could have been a festival to celebrate the free spirit of Jazz music, and this beautiful tradition of oppressed minorities. Instead, it is a government event of propaganda, which uses Jazz music as a tool for whitewashing military occupation, apartheid and oppression of the Palestinian people.

We stress that one quiet night in Gaza does not make the end of oppression. The siege is still in place, Palestine is still colonised, genocide still the bigger picture. The numbers of Israel's latest mass massacre of the indigenous Palestinian people are over 1875 killed, 430 children, 243 women and 79 elderly. 400 have yet to be identified and bodies are still being pulled out of the rubble. A total of 9567 Palestinians, including 2878 children, 1854 women, and 374 elderly, have been injured. Over 65,000 homes destroyed beyond repair. Over half a million refugees- that's about half the population- inside a concentration camp. Let's cry out from every stage, podium and soapbox: Boycott Israel! Please SIGN and SHARE this petition.

How you can help

Culture is not created in a vaccum. Culture that ignores human rights violations and is used to whitewash war crimes and crimes against humanity, and cultural workers who accept money in this context, are complicit. The many victories of the BDS movement so far have shown us that culture can shine a light on these crimes, instead of muffling the cries of the victims. Please support the…
