Speaking as a survivor of domestic violence, I can't stress enough the importance of awareness on this subject. Victims need to be educated that there is hope and options. Becoming aware of dv counseling services and shelters and finding a way to acess them are big steps towards learning one's options and receiving support. Using these services can be the victim's first steps in empowering oneself to making healthy choices that can lead to positive and safe new beginnings. None of these steps taken will be easy. It takes a lot of hard work, courage and tough choices to break the cycle of violence, deprogram from it and learn to move on. It takes even longer to heal. But know that you are worth it and deserve so much better! Life is all about embracing joy ,not enduring fear and emotional and physical pain.
