Your signature mattered; please take action again today!
Recently, you signed a petition addressed to Skechers Shoes CEO Robert Greenberg demanding that their trucking contractor reinstate me and my co-worker, Amilcar, after we were illegally fired for standing up for our rights as employees. I am writing you today to let you know that your signature was one of more than 25,000 signatures that we personally delivered to Skechers last month.
The day after delivering the petitions, we attended Skechers’ annual shareholder meeting. At that meeting, we were able to speak with company executives and shareholders directly about the poor working conditions, the repeated violations of workers’ rights, and the retaliation against workers who stand up for their rights. Specifically, we demanded that Skechers follow the lead of other major retailers who have adopted responsible contracting policies – and company executive listened.
The pressure on Skechers’ trucking contractor is mounting. Just yesterday, the regional office of the National Labor Relations Board issued a complaint based on its findings that the company has engaged in more that 50 violations of labor law, including when they fired me and Amilcar. We expect that a federal court will soon require that Skechers’ contractor immediately put us back to work and stop violating our rights or be held in contempt of court.
I would like to ask you to take action one more time. Please forward our petition to all of your friends and family and urge them to sign it. Here’s a link for you: http://bit.ly/StopSkechersSweatshop
