WWF delivers signatures to the World Heritage Committee - and they listened!
You spoke out and the World Heritage Committee heard us! We delivered all of the names yesterday. Immediately following, the Committee voted to put the Australian government on notice and said it must take stronger action to protect the Great Barrier Reef as a World Heritage site.
The Committee emphasized that the Australian and Queensland Governments must take responsibility, lift their game and improve management of the Reef. If they don't, they face the shame of having the Reef declared “world heritage in danger” in 2015, putting at risk thousands of tourism jobs and showing just how serious the implications of their actions are on the Reef ecosystem.
Thank you for your support!
