Teenager faces life in prison over hash brownies?!
"This case highlights both the absurdity and devastation of our nation's ongoing war on marijuana," Erik Altieri, spokesperson for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws told HuffPost in an email. "While Colorado and Washington have ushered in the age of legalization, many states still harshly criminalize marijuana and hand out egregious sentences for its possession."
Altieri continued, "The fact that someone could be facing five years to life for marijuana brownies, in a state where recent polls show 58 percent of residents support regulating marijuana like alcohol, proves that there is still much work to be done to reform marijuana policy nationwide. Legislators must quickly catch up to public opinion and enact sensible reforms before further lives are destroyed by our failed prohibition policy."
