Update #2 ·

Reached the 30 Pledgers mark!

Well, fantastic!  30 people have pledged to spread the word of IN!  If those 30 people keep their promise and help us raise awareness then perhaps many people out there will hear about this condition and get a diagnosis.

Here are some Intercostal Neuralgia Facts for you:

What is IN?:

Intercostal Neuralgia is nerve pain radiating from the nerves in the ribcage area.  These nerves are situated in between each rib, starting from the spine and radiating round the ribcage.  If these nerves become damaged or inflamed due to illness, disease or damage during surgery, then this can result in Intercostal Neuralgia.

Symptoms Include:

Some words used to describe the pain left are:

Stabbing,

Sharp,

Burning,

Tearing,

Tender,

Aching

Icicles,

Tingling.

Sometimes this pain is in one place or it can radiate over the whole area.  IN can occur as a dull ache which is constant, with episodes of acute pain which can be severe. The pain of intercostal neuralgia may intensify with exertion. This includes activities such as lifting heavy objects, twisting or turning your torso, coughing, sneezing, or laughing.

Suffering from IN can result in pain radiating to other parts of the body.  Movement in the arms and shoulders may become restricted.  The skin can be hypersensitive due to the nerve damage.  The sufferer may have pain due to certain fabrics touching the skin.  Air temperature can also result in severe pain.  Breathing can become restricted due to pain in the ribcage.  Heart Attack is a viable threat in severe cases.

  • It is important that people learn about this condition!  No one deserves to life in pain.  It is our hope that though education, medical teams will learn how to diagnose and treat this condition, so that sufferers can be treated in a successful fashion.  A lot needs to change for this to happen, and raising awareness is vital!!!

PLEASE PLEDGE TO SPREAD WORD ON INTERCOSTAL NEURALGIA!!  LEARN AND PASS ON THE KNOWLEDGE!
